Future of bi-folding doors

What are the predictions for bifold doors for 2016?
Bifold doors are a great way to modernise and future-proof a home, and they’re equally effective in new build houses and centuries old country estates. As the year draws to a close, we thought it would be fun to look at bifold door trends for 2016.

Changing weather trends

At the end of 2015, the Met Office started to assign names to the storms sweeping the UK. They hoped that they would attract more attention to their potentially devastating effects. As expected, a number of extreme floods hit the UK in December, with some exceptionally warm weather smashing records for the end of the year.
2016 is forecast to be one of the three warmest years on record, so we’re likely to see an increase in people wanting increased ventilation for their homes. Not all warm weather is sunny, but bifold doors can help to get air moving and prevent the harmful build-up of condensation.

Eco-conscious homeowners

As glaziers, we are seeing an increasing trend towards eco-friendly, eco-conscious home improvements. Homeowners are looking for products that are greener and less environmentally damaging, from the bifold doors in the house to the product they use to clean their windows.
Aluminium bifolds are key to energy efficiency, since they are incredibly lightweight and easy to move. At the end of its usable life, a bifold door frame can be recycled as easily as an empty can.
We also save a lot of money in fuel because aluminium is so light. This helps to cut our fuel use, and reduce our carbon footprint. We’ll be looking for more ways to produce eco-friendly bifolds throughout 2016.

Bold and bright

Today’s homeowners are more daring than ever when it comes to colour and contrast, and this appetite for interesting décor extends to their windows and doors. Aluminium bifolds can be made in hundreds of different colours, from standard white and grey through to reds, blues and greens.
In 2016, we expect to see more homeowners embrace the power of colour, replacing old-fashioned French doors or sliding doors with colourful, modern bifolds and bold, colourful wallpaper.
Natural light is going to play a part in more interior design projects, with ‘bringing the outside in’ becoming a key trend for 2016. Bifolds are the ideal solution, as they let you join your indoor and outdoor space.
